A few days ago I have been faced with the situation where one of my customers asked to buy a desk for his daughter. He wanted one that be solid and face the time so I have recommended him a solid roll top desk. He was very happy with this proposal so we went through the stores I know to find one that fit his home design.
How about an antique? How would you like an old roll top desk?
At one moment we reached an antique shop where there was this beautiful antique roll top desk, solid wood, old oak, in a perfect condition. We started a discussion with the seller who was more than happy to give us all the informations we needed. Seems that, because it used to belong to a wealthy plant owner of the local city, was in very good shape, but, because the man was not that famous, the price of this antique and beautiful roll top desk was not high. It is not like the desk belonged to a personality, right? But the value of the piece of furniture was great so I advised my client to buy it immediately. My client followed my advice and bought it and I can tell you that at this very moment, the antique rolltop desk sits proudly in his daughter office serving it's meaning.
I was also happy to find out that the daughter of my client asked for the story of the desk when she found out it is old and has a history and after hearing how old the desk is, she started to pay very much attention when using it, to preserve what others saved before her, what I find to be a very beautiful thing to do.
